Data Visualization

The amazing House of Cards video for Radiohead works so well due to the brilliant work of Aaron Koblin, currently at Google. The video here is another work by Aaron and is a visual representation of air traffic flight path data. Its one thing to read that there are 20,000 planes in the air at any one time and its another to see them all at once. This type of visual representation brings a much deeper connection to information and allows the viewer to integrate data as more than a set of facts. You can see what the meaning behind the numbers is.

This is a link to a great interview with Aaron on the French site Etapes. Along with some great peeks at many of his other projects he talks about data visualization and design and the new hybrid approach to design.
