Another look at possible media trends in the year ahead, David Armano (Sr VP at Edelman Digital) wrote this post for the Harvard Business Review. In his insightful look at business and human behavior he points to the effects that the pervasiveness of social media will have and are having on the way we conduct business and live our lives.
He draws the conclusion that social media will continue to grow like crazy, become accessed more and more from mobile devices and evolve into increasingly more user-tailored experiences and expressions.
One of the most interesting trends he describes is Social business becomes serious play. Using game-like new social network Foursquare as an example, he imagines brands taking advantage of human competitive nature to incentivize consumers to participate in promotions imbedded in social networks.
Whether its companies learning to use social media networks to become more efficient or to create new ways to engage consumers, its looks to be an interesting year ahead!
